Department of Agriculture (DA)

  • Foundation. The Department of Agriculture and Manufacturing was established on June 12, 1898. It was on January 30, 1987, when President Aquino signed and issued Executive Order No. 116 to rename the organization to the Department of Agriculture.
  • Mission. DA was designated to boost farmers' income and reduce poverty incidence in the rural sector through the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP).
  • Vision. DA aims to establish prosperous rural communities, built on profitable farms that provide surplus for agro-industry and food security. It also aspires to develop at least two million hectares of new land for agribusiness in order to contribute 2 million jobs targeted in 2010 and reduce costs of wage goods through productivity enhancement, more efficient logistics, and improved retailing linkages.
  • Administration. DA is currently headed by Secretary Proceso "Procy" Alcala with nine other staff offices namely:
o   Information Technology Center for Agriculture and Fisheries
o   Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service
o   Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service
o   Field Operation Service
o   Policy Analysis Service
o   Project Development Service
o   Planning Service
o   Financial Management Service
o   Administrative Service
